Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2015 Norway

Staysman (& Lazz): “If we won MGP we would most likely sing an English version in Vienna” (Norwegian finalists – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Staysman (Stian Thorbjørnsen), half of the duet Staysman & Lazz who are finalists of the Norwegian national selection for Eurovision 2015 “MGP”. They will sing “En godt stekt pizza” in the final set on Saturday, March 14.

ESC+Plus: Hello guys! First of all congratulations on having been selected to compete at Melodi Grand Prix. Can you tell us about you, your musical evolution and important achievements?

We are a party pop band from Norway. Just making easy, catchy sing along songs. Our album “Helt Sykt Store Hits” (“totally insane big hits” ) was the most streamed norwegian sung album in 2014. I guess that’s our most significant achievement.

E+: Why did you decide to take part in MGP 2015?

It is a childhood dream coming true. We’re so honoured to get this opportunity.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Norway in Vienna?

That would be the best thing ever! We are beyond ready to show Europe a show like nothing seen before.

E+: Your song is called “En godt stekt pizza”. Can you tell us about the song and the story behind the lyrics? How was the composition procedure?

The lyrics are a bit different from our first sketch that we sent to the MGP-jury. It might have been a tad too controversial, but they loved the melody. So we made the lyrics more tv friendly and submitted it again. “En godt stekt pizza” means a well done pizza” in english. The idea came when one of the writers came into the studio with a well done pizza. Haha.

E+: Have you started to prepare your stage performance? Can you reveal us anything about it?

It will be both pompous. Beautiful and an awesome party.

E+: What are your main strengths so as to get the needed support to win the contest?

We got a lot of fans in all corners and parts of Norway. And we make uncomplicated party music that we know from experience that the Norwegian people love.

E+: If you won MGP 2015, would you sing in English or in Norwegian at Eurovision?

We would most likely sing an English version in Vienna.

E+: What can this competition contribute to your musical careers?

We get the opportunity to reach a wider audience than before. Until now our fan base has been mainly from the age of 13 to 25.

E+: Do you have any favourite song among the other MGP finalists?

We like Contrazt very much! 🙂

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision?

Of course. Every year since I was a toddler.

E+: Do you have any favourite song in the history of the contest?

Yes. Nocturne (by Secret garden) is actually one of my favourite songs.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

We play concerts all the time. In addition to that, we’re planning a new album.

E+: What is your favourite music style? Do you have any favourite singer?

I listen to all kinds of music. It’s impossible to pick a favourite style and singer.

E+: Finally, would you like to send a message for our readers?

We absolutely love being a part of this and it’s amazing to see the commitment throughout Europe. We’ll (hopefully) see you in Vienna!
