Regína: “My performance will be a fairytale” (Icelandic participant – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked with Regína Ósk, one of the lucky selected to compete at the Icelandic “Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins” 2015. Regína, who already represented Iceland at Eurovision 2008, will sing “Aldrei of Seint”at the second semi-final of the national selection.

Check what she has told us below!

ESC+Plus: Hello Regína! First of all, congratulations on having been selected to compete at the Icelandic selection for Eurovision 2015! How did you feel when you were told you were one of the 12 selected artists for “Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins” 2015?

I did not sing the demo but Maria is a very good friend of mine and she asked me to perform it.

E+: You have already taken part at Eurovision and previous editions of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins, why did you decide entering the competition once more time? How do you face this new Eurovision attempt?

It was not in my plans to participate but I really liked the song so I just went for it!

I don´t look at this much as a competition. I just look at this as a fun and rewarding project, working with lovely people and doing what I love and work with all year around. It´s one of the biggest TV productions in Iceland and a good place to release a new song.

E+: You represented Iceland at Eurovision 2008 as part of the duet Euroband, how did you experience the whole contest? What was the most special moment in Belgrade?

My experience representing Iceland with Euroband in 2008 was great and one of my most funny moments in life. I felt so good and we were very well prepared.

The most special moment was definitely when we came through to the final! It was the first time that Iceland came through and it felt great!

E+: Can you tell us about your musical career and important achievements?

I have released 5 solo albums, one with Euroband and one with a Christmas Quartet I was in. I write some of the songs and the lyrics as well. I have sung in hundreds of cd´s and performed in all the biggest concerts in Iceland and with all the best musicians in Iceland.

E+: Would you like your children to follow Eurovision? Do you usually watch the contest with them?

I always watch the competition with my children and they are raised to be fans. My mother was a fan and my girls are loving it!

E+: Your song is called “Aldrei of Seint”. Can you tell us about it? What is the story behind the lyrics? How was the composition procedure?

The story is about life and how we sometimes have to stop and think about what we have right now and embrace it.

The song was written as a Icelandic/Sweden co-operation and the lyrics was written by me and Maria Bjork.

E+: If you win “Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2015”, would sing in English or Icelandic at Eurovision? Would you make a new version of the song?

Probably in English….the song was written in English in the first place. We won’t probably make a new version but you never know!

E+: How are you preparing your “Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins” performance? Can you reveal us anything about it?

I am working on it right now! I am not going to reveal anything but it will be a fairytale!

E+: What are your main strengths so as to get the support of juries and televote to reach Eurovision?

My main strength is I have a lot of experience in performing both live and at big concerts, but you just have to smile and enjoy yourself and hopefully it will shine through

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favourite songs in the history of the competition?

Yes, I am a huge fan. I like many, many songs….Non ho l´eta, All kinds of everything, Wild dances, Only teardrops and many more……

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your other plans for this year?

I will keep presenting my album that I released before Christmas, were I sing children hymns in relaxing versions. Then I am participating in Tina Turner tribute concerts and just be with my family, but I have three children (the youngest just 7 months).

E+: Finally, would you like to send a message for our readers?

Thanx for watching and enjoy the fun times ahead with great performances all over Europe!
