Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2015 Sweden

Midnight Boy: “Being on stage is really the one thing I love the most in this world.” (Melodifestivalen participant – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Midnight Boy, semifinalist of the Swedish competition for Eurovision 2015 “Melodifestivalen”. Midnight Boy will sing “Don’t Say No” in the fourth semifinal to take place tomorrow.

ESC+Plus: Hi! First of all congratulations on having been selected to compete at Melodifestivalen 2015.

Can you tell us about you, your musical evolution and important achievements?

Music to me has always been an escape. I pretty much lived my life in the basement where I got my studio for some time now. In the meantime I’ve done all kinds of gigs to pay the rent. It’s been a lot of hard work but also a lot of fun and Midnight Boy is really the product of all that. I can’t really picture myself doing anything else but I know I’m very lucky to have this opportunity.

E+: Why did you decide to take part in Melodifestivalen 2015?

That was an easy decision to make since I get to introduce Midnight Boy to all of you guys. Being on stage is really the one thing I love the most in this world.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Sweden in Vienna?

That would be such a cool thing to do. A true honor.

E+: Can you tell us about your song “Don’t Say No” and the story behind the lyrics? How was the composition procedure?

It’s about getting into that groove of your own no matter what people thinks of the way you dance. I wrote the song with Olle Blomström and Kristoffer Östergren. It was an interesting process, Kristoffer is creative, always filled with ideas while Olle is a great producer, very skillful.

E+: How are you preparing your stage performance? Can you reveal us anything about it?

Imagine Top of the Pops back in 1984 and there you go.

E+: What are your main strengths so as to get the people support to reach Eurovision?

That’s not up to me to say. But as I said before, this is my life and hopefully that’s gonna shine though.

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favorite song in the history of the contest?

Oh yeah. I love the way Eurovision has evolved into a political statement. What Conchita did last year and a couple of artists before that is so important! My favorite song is probably Divine by Sebastian Tellier, such a great retrovibe.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

First of all, releasing my debut EP. Then I just wanna play a lot of shows. I’m also planning a short film connected to my music.

E+: What is your favourite music style? Do you have a favourite singer?

Obviously I’ve got a special thing for the 80’s. I’m very into Prince, Madonna, Depeche Mode and lots of early new wave/synth acts. I’m also a huge fan of The Doors.

E+: Finally, would you like to send a message for our readers?

Love yourself and act out your ideas! Don’t forget to watch the 28th of February. Much love<3
