Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2016 Germany

Laura Pinski: “My song has a strong message when it comes to war and life in general” (German finalist – Exclusive Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Laura Pinski, finalist in this year’s German national selection for Eurovision. Laura will perform “Under The Sun We Are One” in the “Unser Lied für Stockholm” final set on February 25.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the German national selection for Eurovision 2016!

Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

My name is Laura Pinski I am 19 years old and I’m from Germany. Last year I did my A levels and right now I’m studying law at the University in Düsseldorf. I don’t know when exactly music became a part of my life… I guess it was always there somehow 🙂 When I was little I was like the biggest Shakira fan on earth and I tried to dance like her and to learn the words to her songs. Of course I couldn’t speak English but it didn’t matter, I just sang in a kind of imaginary language and it made me happy 😀 In 2012 I participated in the German version of “Britain’s Got Talent” and even made it to the final. Even though I didn’t win it was definitely one of my greatest experiences in life and in music so far. But I’m really looking forward to the German “Vorentscheid”. I think it will even be a bigger and greater experience because now I get the chance to perform my very own song and to probably even sing it in Stockholm in May. This would be amazing! 🙂

E+: What impelled you to take part in “Unser Lied für Stockholm 2016”?

It always has been one of my biggest dreams to be a part of the Eurovision Song Contest. It’s just amazing how every single country presents it’s song and how we all “spend an evening together” 🙂 It would be an honor for me to represent Germany in Stockholm and to share my very own song/message with all of these people:)

E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the final? Did you expect it?

I mean I hoped it but I didn’t expect it. I was just freaking out as I got the message that I’m getting the chance to participate in the German “Vorentscheid” 🙂 I just can’t realize that this is really happening!

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Germany?

It would mean the world to me to share “Under The Sun We Are One” with Europe.

E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

I’m loving this song so much. It has such a strong message when it comes to war and life in general, which is really important in our time.

E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

That’s pretty hard to say. But my recipe is that I’m just staying who I really am. In my opinion it’s really important to stay true to who you are and to be authentic. And if that isn’t enough – well then at least I gave my best and tried 🙂

E+: Have you started to prepare your stage performance for “Unser Lied für Stockholm 2016”?

No, I haven’t start practicing for the stage performance yet 🙂

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favorite songs in the history of the competition?

Yes, it’s a kind of family tradition that we’re watching the ESC together every year. My favorite songs of the former shows are “Satellite” by Lena, “Lipstick” by Jedward, “Only Teardrops” by Emmelie de Forest and “Quédate conmigo” by Pastora Soler 🙂

E+: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

I probably would choose Lena who won the ESC in 2010 for Germany because she’s just amazing 🙂

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

I’m definitely continuing my studies in law. Moreover I just want to spend time with my family and friends and be healthy and happy 🙂

E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

Dear Eurovision fans :), I hope you liked the interview! Lastly I’d like to wish you a lot of fun watching the show this year. Stay happy & healthy! 🙂 Thank You for the interview 🙂

E+: Thank you for your time and good luck!
