Kruuv: “Our strength is the positive emotion we bring” (Estonian participants – Interview)

Esc+Plus has talked with Kruuv, semifinalists of the Estonian national selection for Eurovision 2015. The band will sing “Tiiu talu tütreke” in second semifinal of “Eesti Laul” set on February 14th.

ESC+Plus: Hi guys! Firstly, we would like to know more about you. Can you tell us about the history of the band “Kruuv”?

Kruuv is a group of good friends that has made happy music since 2007.

E+: Why did you decide entering “Eesti Laul” 2015?

We love to make music that gives people joy and makes them move their body. With Eesti Laul we can give these emotions to more people. Also it is a great way to get more thrill into our lives.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Estonia at Eurovision?

We think representing Estonia in Vienna would be a great honor to any Estonian band as they have the trust and votes of Estonian people.

E+: Your song is called “Tiiu talu tütreke”. How was the composition procedure? Can you tell us about the song and the story behind the lyrics?

The melody and lyrics were presented to the band by Kruuv´s singer/composer and then every musician in the band gave their contribution. In Estonian folklore there is a young girl called Tiiu. She is very talented and will grow into exemplary Estonian woman. We however sing of her daughter who will instead drink beer, dance and enjoy life to the fullest.

E+: How are you preparing your performance? Can you reveal us anything about it?

Right now we are working on, how to get the most of our happy emotions through the TV – screen.

As we come up with new ideas every day, it is too early to say what our show will look like. You will definitely see a bagpipe and 6 happy musicians.

E+: What are your main strengths so as to get the support of juries and televote to reach Eurovision?

Our strength is the positive emotion we bring.

E+: If you win Eesti Laul 2015, would you sing in English or Estonian at Eurovision? Would you make a new version?

If we win Eesti Laul, then we will still sing our song in Estonian. We enjoy listening to Eurovision performances in their native tongue and you can still see the translated lyrics down in the subs.

E+: What can this competition contribute to your musical career?

Eurovision would bring our music to more people and promoting our music is definitely one of our goals.

E+: Do you have any favourite song among the other “Eesti Laul” 2015 candidates?

All the songs that have been selected to be in the semi-finals of Eesti Laul are great songs and we like them all.

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favourite song in the history of the competition?

Yes, we are fans of Eurovision. Our favorite winner of Eurovision is Sweden with “Waterloo” in 1974.

E+: Finally, would you like to send a message for our readers?

We wish you all a warm heart in wintertime and welcome you to Estonia.
