ESC+Plus has talked to Isa, participant of the Swedish selection for Eurovision 2015 “Melodifestivalen”. Isa will sing “Don’t Stop” in the third semifinal set on February 21.
ESC+Plus: Hi Isa! First of all congratulations on having been selected to compete at Melodifestivalen 2015.
Thank you! I’m so excited!
E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical evolution and important achievements?
I’m a sixteen year-old girl, and I have always loved singing, dancing and performing. When I was only five years old I performed in the Swedish TV show ”Småstjärnorna”, in 2009 I competed in “Sweden’s got Talent”, and in 2011 I performed my own written song in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Since I was very little I have also been competing in different dance competitions, so being on stage has been and still is a big part of me. The last couple of years I’ve been writing and recording my own music together with songwriters and producers in both Sweden and America. I have always had the dream to work with music my entire life, develop myself as an artist and inspire people all over the world.
E+: Why did you decide to take part in Melodifestivalen 2015?
As long as I can remember I have had the goal to perform on big stages like the one in Melodifestivalen. Because I’m only sixteen this is the first year I’m allowed to participate in the competition. So, as soon as I got the chance I took it, haha. Even though I am young I’m more than ready and I couldn’t be more excited to show Sweden who I am!
E+: What it would mean for you to represent Sweden in Vienna?
It would be unbelievably insane and amazing at the same time! To know that I could impress people with my music enough to be Sweden’s representing winner is one of my biggest dreams . And of course It would be so exciting to get the opportunity to perform internationally!
E+: Your song is called “Don’t Stop”. Can you tell us about the song and the story behind the lyrics? How was the composition procedure?
I love to be a part of creative processes, like the one writing “Don’t Stop”, in order to make my songs as personal for me as possible. When the four other writers and I wrote ”Don’t Stop” there was such a great feeling in the room. I could feel that the song would turn out incredible. The lyrics of the song are about a confident girl who gets too overwhelmed by the love for someone or something to not to fall for him, her or it.
E+: How are you preparing your stage performance? Can you reveal us anything about it?
I have been singing the song uncountable times, on uncountable places and I will keep on rehearsing to be assured that I know it perfectly. The week I will perform in Melodifestivalen I might be able to sing it backwards, in my sleep, haha. I have been dancing and rehearsing my performance both on my own and together with my dance crew. Mentally I’m just trying to prepare myself standing in front of a big arena and millions of viewers. But honestly I don’t think I will realize how big this is s until a couple of minutes before the performance.
E+: What are your main strengths so as to get the people support to reach Eurovision?
I’m going to share all of me during the three minutes I get, with a lot of happiness, energy and dance. I hope people will be positively influenced of a new, young girl who truly can show how passionate she is about music!
E+: If you win Melodifestivalen, would you sing in Swedish or in English at Eurovision?
I would sing in English, since the song originally is written in English. But it would actually be a lot of fun to hear how it would sound in Swedish! That’s a crazy thought, haha.
E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favourite song in the story of the contest?
I think I have watched it every year since I was born, and I will be just as interested this year, no matter if I will participate myself or another worthy winner will be representing Sweden. My favourite song in the contest is probably ”Euphoria” with Loreen. I already loved the performance and the song in Melodifestivalen. It was amazing that Loreen both won the Swedish contest and later on the whole Eurovision Song Contest!
E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?
I will release an EP during the spring, which will be a lot of fun. So now it’s all about getting the best songs together, to make the EP a smash. After the release I’m going to stay productive and try to do as much as possible, and be seen everywhere! Hopefully at the end of this year I will look back at this time, thinking about how much I have learned and grown. I’m excited 2015, because it feels unpredictable!
E+: What is your favourite music style and singer?
The artist who inspire me the most is Beyoncé. She is amazing in al lot of ways. I think her voice is one of the strongest is the world, she’s a great dancer and when she’s on stage she reminds me of a powerful super hero.
E+: Finally, would you like to send a message for our readers?
If you don’t want to miss a performance full of energy and dance, watch me in Melodifestivalen February 21st! I hope you will enjoy the show, I know I will.
