Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2016 Estonia

Indrek Ventmann: “It got inspiration from Tenerife’s beautiful landscapes, nice weather, ocean and all the other beautiful things there” (Estonian semifinalist – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Indrek Ventmann, semifinalist of this year’s Estonian national selection for Eurovision. Indrek will perform “Hispaania tüdruk” in the first semi-final of Eesti Laul to take place tomorrow.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Estonian national selection for Eurovision 2016!

Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

I started singing when I was in High School and that lead to participate in musicals “Evita“ and “Grease”. Actually I am also a student, studying pharmacy in University of Tartu, but singing has been my number 1 hobbie.

E+: What impelled you to take part in “Eesti Laul 2016”?

This idea came in Tenerife, where Allan Kasuk (author of “Hispaania tüdruk”) got the inspiration to write and record this song and decided to submit the „Hispaania tüdruk“ to Eesti Laul 2016.

E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the semi-final?

I was really happy and surprised. Actually I was near the pool and I just jumped in 🙂

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Estonia?

It would be a great honour!

E+: Can you tell us about your song “Hispaania tüdruk” (Spanish Girl)? What is the story behind the lyrics?

It is a cool summer song. 🙂 It got inspiration from Tenerife’s beautiful landscapes, nice weather, ocean and all the other beautiful things here! As an Estonian, there is always a summer for us in Tenerife. Few weeks ago it was like 50 degrees difference between Estonia and Tenerife… 🙂

E+: Would you like to sing it in Spanish?

It would be tricky because I don’t speak Spanish 🙂

E+: What do you like the most from Spain?

Spain is a really beautiful country to visit. I really like the Canary Islands and the fact I can always swim in the ocean 🙂

E+: How are you preparing your performance for “Eesti Laul”?

We had many ideas about the performance and some of them were really crazy. Finally we chose the most simple one, but it suits the best for this song. How will it exactly look like? You can check it out on the 13th of February! 😉

E+: What is your opinion about the past Estonian representatives in Eurovision? Do you have any favourites?

All the representatives have been really good! I think my favourite song is the last year’s Eesti Laul winner song – “Goodbye to Yesterday”.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

I am getting married, wohooo!

E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

Stay cool and vote for us!

E+: Thanks for your time and good luck!
