ESC+Plus has talked to Filipa Baptista, contender of the Portuguese national selection for Eurovision 2015 “Festival da Canção”. Filipa will sing “A Noite Inteira” in the first semi-final to take place tomorrow.
ESC+Plus: Hello! Firstly congratulations on having been selected to compete at Festival da Canção 2015.
Thank you very much, it’s an honor.
E+: Can you tell us a bit about your musical career?
I started my career when I was 10 years old, music and theatre are my life.
E+: Why did you decide to take part in the Portuguese national selection for Eurovision 2015?
When Augusto Madureira, the composer and a very good friend of mine invited me to sing his song, I didn’t think twice!
E+: What it would mean for you to represent Portugal in Vienna?
It would be a dream come true! You have the chance to perform in the name of your country every day.
E+: Can you tell us about your song “A Noite Inteira” and the story behind the lyrics?
“A Noite Inteira” is a song about breaking free of the past, personal freedom and self-respect.
E+: Have your started to prepare your stage performance? Can you reveal us anything about it?
We are working on that! For now, the suspense is a great ally!
E+: What are your main strengths so as to get the people’s support to reach Eurovision?
The song is definitely our main strength. At some point in life, everyone experienced what the lyric says, and that I think is our greatest asset.
E+: What can this competition contribute to your musical career?
This competition is one in a lifetime experience and opportunity. I’m sure it would be a huge leap in my career.
E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favourite song in the history of the contest?
I follow Eurovision all year round. It’s the most important song contest in Europe. My favorite song for the year 2015? I must listen to them all before I can make-up my mind.
E+: What is your favourite music style?
I really don’t have a favorite style, it depends on my mood, and so does the artist.
E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?
My plan is to keep singing everyday, and perhaps record my first album!
E+: Finally, would you like to send a message for our readers?
I just want to say that 2015 may be the year of Portugal and I truly hope it’s going to be a kick ass competition!
