ESC+Plus has talked to Felicia Lu Kürbiß, finalist of this year’s German national selection for Eurovision. The young singer will be competing in the final set to take place on February 9th.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the German national selection for Eurovision 2017!

Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

Felicia Lu Kürbiß: Of course! My name is Felicia Lu Kürbiß, I am 21 years old and I am working as a singer / songwriter currently.

Music has always been my biggest passion. I’ve been singing since I can remember. I’ve been lucky to be attending at music orientated schools, which made me learn and achieve a lot. The greatest achievement has probably been me attending at the final of „Rising Star“ in 2014, which has been a talent-show here in Germany. But I am most excited to be here now.

ESC+Plus: What impelled you to take part in “Unser Song 2017”?

Felicia Lu Kürbiß: I think it’s a great opportunity! First of all for me as an artist obviously. I get to see and learn a lot during that time which I am absolutely grateful for. I saw my chance and I reached for it. Things like this only happen once in a lifetime. Secondly, music is my greatest passion. It only seemed right to give it a try.

ESC+Plus: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the final? Did you expect it?

Felicia Lu Kürbiß: The moment I found out I made it into the final was one of the happiest and most exciting moments of my life. I was at work when they called me, so I ran into the back office and basically freaked out. I can’t say that I expected it to happen. Of course I was hoping and imagined me standing on that stage. I think if you really want something and try your best to achieve your goal – everything is possible. And here I am now.

ESC+Plus: What would it mean to you to represent Germany?

Felicia Lu Kürbiß: Honestly, I think it would change my entire life. Been given the honor and the trust to be representing a whole county is just incredible. Therefore I can promise that I would / will definitely give my best to make my country and the whole Eurovision community proud.

ESC+Plus: What kind of song would you like to sing at Eurovision?

Felicia Lu Kürbiß: I am a lot into electro-pop. Therefore I would love to sing something that goes a little into that direction. Something that has a positive message and makes people happy.

ESC+Plus: Can you tell us about your favorite music style?

Felicia Lu Kürbiß: Electro-pop is basically modern popular music, but mostly with electronic instruments, like synths and so on. I just love the sound and feel like myself in that genre.

ESC+Plus: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What is your favorite song in the history of the competition?

Felicia Lu Kürbiß: There has been not a single year I’ve not watched Eurovision. It’s basically become a tradition in my family. My favourite song of the last couple of years have been Loic Nottet’s Rhythm Inside and Satellite by Lena of course.

ESC+Plus: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

Felicia Lu Kürbiß: I’d love to share a stage with Mans Zelmerlöw and Loic Nottet.

ESC+Plus: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

Felicia Lu Kürbiß: Dear Eurovision fans, thank you for all your support. This journey is one I will never forget and always keep in my heart. It would mean the absolute world to me if I would be honored to represent Germany at this years Eurovision. I’ll give my best, be in it with all me heart and everything I’ve got. However, I wish us all a very exciting and stunning show.
