ESC+Plus has talked to Berta Timinskaitè, candidate of this year’s Lithuanian national selection for Eurovision, “Eurovizijos 2016”. The singer will perform “Stars in a rainbow” in the fifth heat to take place today:
ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Lithuanian national selection for Eurovision 2016!
E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?
I started to sing when I was 3 years old, therefore I can celebrate 23 years of singing career 🙂 I ended the music school and I sing different styles of music: from opera to gospel. I have reached the finals of several television music projects like The voice of Lithuania, and Lithuania got talent, realized myself as a black vocal. I have sung gospel in group “HARK!” and, now, in “Where the backs come from”. Moreover, I am the lead singer, songwriter of the electronic music duo “SillyCut”. Me and one of the most talented music producers Artiomas Penkevičius are materializing own songs. Artiomas and his colleague Edgar Koldaras arranged the Eurovision song.
E+: What impelled you to take part in “Eurovizijos 2016”?
Possibility to show different music and bring a little bit of colors in this competition.
E+: How did you feel during your first performance at “Eurovizijos”? Did you expect to get the ticket for the next stage?
We were willing to get the chance to participate again. I am very grateful for all encouragement and support, I hope to give the best performance for our audience. During the first performance, I was a little bit nervous but also very confident. The best thing in the world is to sing on stage, so I am really happy.
E+: What it would mean for you to represent Lithuania?
It would mean a lot. It is a very important responsibility and we would make sure to be in the high class. Without no friendship, only with the clear purpose.
E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?
The song is about love for sure 🙂 However, it is also about the relations in general, about the relations between nations, the purpose to bring everybody a brighter future. It doesn’t really matter if we talk about the drama between the lovers, or in the world as a whole.
E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?
It is really modern and trendy. It has a great theme and a very memorable/catchy melody line. I think we are strong with this.
E+: Will you change your stage performance for the next phase of “Eurovizijos 2016”?
Yes, a little bit. I hope to reach another phase to show much more.
E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favourite songs in the history of the competition?
If I have enough time, I always watch Eurovision and support my country. One of the most memorable performances from the last Eurovision edition is Loïc Nottet – Rhythm Inside. This is the direction how the future of Eurovision should move.
E+: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?
If we talk about our country it would be Donatas Montvydas. If we talk in general – the same, Loïc Nottet.
E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?
SillyCut is finishing its first album and will release new songs, so I think we will focus on that this year.
E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?
Don’t ever stop listening and believing in good music. This world has so much to give you.
