ESC+Plus has talked to Bella C, finalist of this year’s Swiss national selection for Eurovision. Bella C will perform “Another World” in the final of “Die Entscheidungsshow” set on February 13.
ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Swiss national selection for Eurovision 2016!
Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?
My name is Bella C. I’m coming from Bulgaria. I started my music career 20 years ago. Traveling between Cyprus, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Turkey, Sweden, Norway , Singapore, China, Japan even Lapland ( on -40’C ) 🙂 was interesting experience to see and feel all those countries. I was doing cover songs. Then, I decided to reduce stage performances and to learn more about music. Went to a studio, and start composing. I did 1-2 albums, I worked with some known Swiss musicians, but basically I wanted to develop myself as a song writer and studio musician.. I start missing live performances, and I start parallel with studio work, some small shows.. Than bigger ones, and bigger ones.. I had the honor to share the stage with Nelly Furtado, The Hurts, Loreen , ( ESC 2012) , Tom Odell , next year – with Jessie J. And Jackson’s family. I’m really enjoying my life as a musician. It’s exciting, and there is nothing else in the world I wanna do, but singing and playing piano.
E+: What impelled you to take part in “Die Entscheidungsshow 2016”?
The decision about ESC came absolutely spontaneous. It was just few days before the dead line. All happened very fast, and we didn’t have time even to think much. For a week we completed the writing of the song, recorded it, made an arrangement in the studio, shoot the video and … Uploaded it to the platform . 4 – 5 hours before the deadline 🙂 Just like a movie running on a fast lane…
E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the final? Did you expect it?
Oh my God that was amazing feeling! I got a call from my producer… The first few seconds I lost my tough. I remember the faces of all my friends around me with eyes wide open! I told them the good news and we were SCREAMING ! Loud !! Jumping just like small kids! Really funny! Of course, that evening I couldn’t sleep at all ! 🙂 Those moments I will remember forever – I am sure!
E+: What do you think about your performance in the Expert Check? Will you change anything for the final?
I have listened many times to my live performance. Watching every detail on my face, listening to my voice. I found many little things I should work on it.. I know I can do it better. To be honest, that was my first big tv performance. I was extremely nervous. My Goodness , my feet were shaking. My first goal is to try to keep myself calm and deliver best results.
E+: What it would mean for you to represent Switzerland?
Representing Switzerland would mean a lot for me! I would be happy and proud! I know I will give all I have to make the Swiss people happy, and I really hope they will vote for me on 13.02.16.
E+: Would you like to represent your motherland Bulgaria in the future?
I left Bulgaria when I was a young girl. I was almost 17. Since then, I am travelling around the world and coming home just 2-3 weeks per year. My working network is in Switzerland, but I will be happy if I have the chance to work with the Bg Eurovision for the future
E+: Can you tell us about your song “Another World”? What is the story behind the lyrics?
Another world” is a very dramatic, emotional and breath-taking ballad. The text of the song came out very fast, I was Just pouring out of my fingers. At that particular moment I felt very much involved in the world’s situation. I mean : aggression, terror, anger, hate, war,..the lyrics were my message to all of us.. ” Lay your guns down, Let’s spread love. We can do it, if we hold together”
E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?
The song “Another World” has deepness! I think it’s a timeless ballade with beautiful melody and lyrics. This song can touch the hearts of the listeners with the message of “love and compassion”. I’m sure it can.. Just like it touches me while I sing it. So, take a breath and listen to it in silence. It’s a really strong emotion! It deserves to be spread in Europe!
E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?
My plans? Well .. My plans are always connected with music. It was like this before ESC and it will be in that way after ESC. My music agenda it’s kind of full for 2016 already. I have in plans to do lot of gigs, parties, studio jobs, recording of songs.. Bella C has been a music soldier for 20 years and I guess it will go on like this for the next 20! 🙂
