Albin & Mattias: “Rik is an uptempo song with a lot of energy” (Swedish semifinalists – Exclusive Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Albin & Mattias, semifinalists of this year’s Swedish national selection for Eurovision. They will perform “Rik” (Rich) in the first Melodifestivalen 2016 semifinal set on February 6.

ESC+Plus: First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Swedish national selection for Eurovision 2016.

Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

Albin had the biggest hit in Sweden 2014 with his song Din Soldat. He wrote that song together with Mattias. Mattias is also a songwriter/producer and the M in former swedish boy band EMD.

E+: What impelled you to take part in “Melodifestivalen 2016”?

It seems fun.

E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the semifinal? Did you expect it?

Good! It wasn’t a chock.

E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

We’re not there to win. It’s an up-tempo song with a lot of energy. The lyrics are about love.

E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm?

It a good song and we will spread some love.

E+: What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

We have good vibes together.

E+: If you win Melodifestivalen, will you sing in Swedish or in English at Eurovision?

We’re not there to win. We will perform in Swedish.

E+: How do you remember your participation in previous editions of Melodifestivalen?

Fun!

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favorite songs in the history of the competition?

Yes! Euphoria.

E+: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

Loreen.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

We will release an album then we’re going on tour!
