After failing to qualify two years in a row, RÚV is hoping to return to the final in Kyiv 2017 by calling for entries to Söngvakeppnin, Iceland’s national selection. The semifinals will take place on 25 February and 4 March, and the final will take place on 11 March. Each semi-final will have six artists, three of which will qualify to the final through a 50/50 jury and televote split.
Songs are due to RÚV by 28 October. Artists must be Icelandic citizens or residents of Iceland. Foreign authors may be involved in entries, but at least 2/3 of the song and ½ of the lyrics must be written by Icelandic authors. Like recent years, the entries will be performed in Icelandic in the semifinal and in the language intended to be performed in at Eurovision during the final.
Last year Iceland sent Greta Salóme with “Hear them Calling” but failed to qualify. Do you think Iceland will break its two year streak and return to the final in 2017?
