Earlier this year, The Finnish national broadcaster YLE confirmed that the selection method for Eurovision 2020 would revert back to a traditional search for artists and songs. The past two iterations of the contest had an artist internally selected with a selection show for the song itself. With this change the interest of artists was great. They received a total of 426 songs, and now it has been confirmed that a jury has selected the best six to proceed to the televised final.
The UMK20 finalists will be revealed on Tuesday, January 21, 2020. The announcement can be followed live on Yle Arena. The final will be held at the Mediapolis TV studio in Tampere on Saturday 7.3.2020 and will be broadcast live on Yle TV1 and Yle Arena. The winner, the Finnish representative at the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam, 12-16 May 202020, will be selected jointly by TV viewers and the UMK jury. The members of the panel that selected the UMK finals will be released in January.
