It has been made public that the Swedish city of Gothenborg, Sweden’s second biggest city, is preparing a host bid to organize the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

Gothenborg was the host city of the Eurovision Song Contest 1985, and wants to battle it out against Sweden’s capital, Stockholm, that is a hot favourite to host the 68th Eurovision Song Contest.
Eurovision bid
Swedish newspaper, “Göteborgs Posten”, has reported last week that a dedicated team is working on Gothenburg’s Eurovision bid. The strategy of the team is to not hand in any plans before the last minute, because they want to hand in the best plans possible. The deadline to hand in the host city bids is today, June 12th 2023.
Economics
Gothenborg officials did state that they are not going to spend an amount of money that they do not think will be socially sensible, because there are more important things to finance than the Eurovision Song Contest. In case, the Swedish national broadcaster, chooses Gothenborg to host the upcoming contest, the city will look for private or commercial investors to gather the money to host.
Eurovision 2023
This year’s contest is won by Sweden’s Loreen with the song “Tattoo”. Loreen’s win marks the first time a female singer has won the Eurovision Song Contest twice, since Loreen also won the 2012 song contest with the song “Euphoria”, which is one of the most successful songs in Eurovision history. Next to this, Loreen is the second singer to win the contest twice; Irish Johnny Logan came before her.
