Denmark 2024: The Danish public broadcaster had to defend Saba’s victory in the national final

The Danish national broadcaster, DR, had to publicly defend Saba’s victory in the national final, “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024”, which was held on February 17th 2024. The reason for this is that Saba’s song, “Sand” was the top pick of the professional juries, but the public chose Basim.

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024

The Danish national final, “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024”, was held on February 17th 2024, and saw Saba winning the golden ticket to represent Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö (Sweden).

Saba was the favourite of the professional juries, but the Danish public chose Basim to represent the country. Both the juries and the public counted for 50% of the total votes in the Danish superfinal, and added up, it was Saba with the song “Sand” that took the crown.

Now DR, the Danish national broadcaster, had to defend why it was still Saba that took the crown, although she was not the hot favourite of the public, because some fans of the Danish national final took it upon themselves to take to social media to complain that the public vote means nothing.

What were the results of the superfinal of the Danish national final?

Below you can find the results of the superfinal of the Danish national final.

  1. Saba – Sand, 15 public votes + 22 jury votes = 37 points
  2. Basim – Johnny, 19 public votes + 15 jury votes = 34 points
  3. Janus Wiberg – I Need Your Love, 16 public votes + 13 jury votes = 29 points

As you can see, it was Saba that won the jury vote and Basim who won the public vote, but added up Saba is the winner of the show.

When will Denmark perform in Eurovision 2024?

In the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö (Sweden) Denmark will perform in the first half of the second Semi-final on May 9th 2024.

Denmark has not managed to reach the Grand Final of the contest since 2019.
