Eurovision Eurovision 2016 Austria

Austria: ORF goes for national final, date set on February 12th!

After hosting last year’s contest in Vienna, now the ORF is getting ready for its next Eurovision task: picking their 2016 entry.

The Austrian broadcaster has decided to organize a single national final show, where 10 acts will fight out for the ticket to represent the country at one of the semifinals in Stockholm’s Globe Arena in May. Last year, the system was a little different, though. A set of five shows were prepared to select the Austrian entry on home-ground, The Makemakes together with another 5 acts made it through to the final, among 16 contestants. They eventually won with ”I Am Yours” and surprisely got ”nul points” in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest grand final, something that has not put ORF off.

The jury and the televoting at home with their phones will be in charge of choosing the entry for Sweden.

More details will trascend on a later stage but we can already tell you that a contest is going to be held to select the wildcard, the tenth participant making up the final line-up for the show. All participants applying should be at least 16 and can be solo artists or a band either. Everyone interested should send the song to [email protected] before September 11th. All songs presented must meet EBU regulations.

Stay tuned for further details on the Austrian participation at Europe’s favourite TV show!
