The search for the next Austrian Eurovision representative is in full swing, and among the artist interested to represent the country is no one less than Conchita Wurst, the Austrian winner of the 2014 contest.
Austria’s 2024 national selection
The national selection for Austria’s 2024 representative has already begun, because scouts are already looking for a new artist to represent the country in Malmö, Sweden.
Call for new representatives
Among the interested artists that responded to the call for new representatives was Conchita Wurst, Austria’s 2014 winner (Copenhagen, Denmark). This update is a thin one, since Conchita only commented on social media below the call for new representative; in Conchita’s own words she wrote that she would send the Casting Director a DM. So, if Conchita is really returning is yet to be seen.
Internal selection
Austria’s internal selection efforts gave them mixed results; of course, Conchita Wurst’s victory with the song “Rise Like A Phoenix” was a high note, but next to this Austria failed to qualify for the Grand Final from 2019 until 2022.
Eurovision 2023
In the Eurovision Song Contest of 2023 in Liverpool (United Kingdom) Austria was represented by Teya and Salena singing “Who the Hell is Edgar”. The duo came in 2nd (of 16) in the Second Semi-final, and eventually ranked 15th in the Grand Final of 2023.
