After a great come back last week, Söngvakeppnin returned tonight to continue the quest to identify the Icelandic representative for Eurovision 2020. The series consists of two semi-finals and a grand final.
In each of the semi-finals, we were able to listen to five performances. Tonight’s acts were the following:
- Daði og Gagnamagnið – “Think about things” / “Gagnamagnið”
- Hildur Vala – “Fellibylur”
- Iva – “Oculis videre” [english / icelandic]
- Matti Matt – “Dreyma”
- Nina – “Echo” / “Ekko”
After the voting, it was decided that Iva with the song “Oculis videre” and Daði og Gagnamagnið with the song “Gagnamagnið” would be performing next Saturday the 29th in the final.
The Final will be held in Laugardalshöll, Reykjavik. Tickets for the shows are available here.

At this point, four songs will battle for the right to represent Iceland in Rotterdam. However, the producers of the show reserve the right to add one extra song (that didn’t qualify) to the final as a wildcard.
After a few moments, Nina, who performed the song “Ekko” earlier tonight, was announced as the wildcard winner.
In a change to this year’s competition, the results of the two semi-finals were determined by both televoting and jury votes, 50% each. In the final, the two songs with the highest amount of votes by the public and the jury will be put up to battle in a “super final” where the public will have full power and will decide the winner of the contest.
The entries were performed in Icelandic in the semifinals, while the candidates have to sing the version of the song they intend for the Eurovision Song Contest in the national final. The winner will be awarded the right to represent Iceland in Rotterdam.
