Sweden: Meet the artists of the fourth Melodifestivalen semi-final

The fourth and last Melodifestivalen semi-final takes place this Saturday in Skellefteå and it is the most anticipated one! Four comebacks in this semi-final but all eyes are set on Loreen! Take a look at the last seven acts of this year’s Melodifestivalen.

Jon Henrik Fjällgren feat. Aninia – En Värld Full Av Strider (Eatneme Gusnie Jeenh Dåaroeh)

Two years after his debut with “Jag är fri (Manne leam frijje)” and a second place in Melodifestivalen, Jon Henrik is back in the contest. This year Aninia is by his side and together they will perform “En värld full av strider”. A strong, beautiful and emotional song according to the artists which is performed both in Swedish and Sami. Aninia is a singer, doing yoga but mainly is an artist and likes to create a lot of things. Jon Henrik and Aninia both live in Mittådalen.

Alice – Running With Lions

Alice was born in 1991 in Vietnam but moved to Sweden when she was 10 months old. At the age of 13 she was member of the group Popcorn. In 2008 she came second in the Swedish Idol where she performed “Heaven’s on fire” by Kiss. The group uploaded Alice’s performance in their website. Alice debuts in Melodifestivalen with “Running with lions”, a soft mid-tempo pop song. “It has always been a dream, but it was important to me to do it the right way. Being only Alice and that there are no references made.”

Les Gordons – Bound To Fall

Les Gordons were created in 2012 and since then, they have been performing in Örebro, Stockholm and Uppsala and got themselves a growing fan base. The band is often compared to Mando Diao and The Hives because of their style. In 2014 they recorded their first album with the title “Les Gordons” and their career kicked off. Appearances in festivals followed and in October of the same year, they were invited to go on tour in USA. In 2016 they finished 7th in Svensktoppen nästa’s final and right after that the group was invited to take part in Melodifestivalen 2017. “Bound to fall” is the title of the song. The boys wrote it especially for Melodifestivalen and it only took three hours to complete it as the music was ready beforehand.

Wiktoria – As I Lay Me Down

Wiktoria has been singing ever since she was a kid. She began taking singing and piano lessons when she was 8 years old and at the age of 10 she even entered a talent contest. After she finished school she moved to Stockholm to pursue her career. Wiktoria made her Melodifestivalen debut last year with “Save me” and finished 4th in the final. This year she comes back with “As I lay me down” which is an uptempo song. “My song is about feeling lost and a little lonely and think that the only thing that can take you out of this situation is love. I believe and hope that many people can relate to it.

Axel Schylström – När Ingen Ser

While still in school Axel spent most of his time in playing football but at the same time he played the drums in a band. In June 2012, he was involved in a fatal accident when he and a friend decided to climb up on a train. Axel touched some power lines and conducted 16,000 volts through his body. The accident resulted in third degree burns on 70% of Axel’s body. Numerous surgeries and treatments followed, but Axel decided to stand up and fight to achieve his dreams. Now he’s making his Melodifestivalen debut with “När ingen ser”. “The song is uptempo, dance and fun. There will be some dance moves! It is about to behave as you do when nobody is watching. That you should be just as weird as you are when you are at home, for example. To dare to be yourself at all times, no matter who’s looking at you.”

Sara Varga & Juha Mulari – Du Får Inte Ändra På Mig

Juha Mulari is a late debutant as he released his first album at the age of 50! He moved to Sweden from Finland when he was 3 years old but his childhood wasn’t ideal so he used music as a way out. Sara Varga is no new face to the contest as she competed in 2011 with “Spring för livet” with which she made it to the final through the second chance round. It’s worth mentioning that she beat Loreen in the first duel of the second chance round. This year she will perform “Du får inte ändra på mig” together with Juha.

Loreen – Statements

Loreen made her debut in music by participating in the Swedish Idol in 2004 after her sister made an application without Loreen’s knowledge. She debuted in Melodifestivalen in 2011 where she was eliminated in the second chance round. She returned to the contest in 2012 with “Euphoria” and not only did she win Melodifestivalen but she also came first in Baku with a margin of 113 points in front of Russia. Loreen makes a comeback this year with “Statements”. “The song is about the situation in the world today. But above all, it’s about giving people power and inspiration. That’s what we need today.”
