The dancing Tornero himself has returned in 2016 in a big way. Not only is Mihai (just Mihai now, folks) on the verge of releasing a new song, “Zombie Love,” he also is reportedly close to giving the world his entry for Romania 2016.
The ESC+Plus team reported later last year that Mihai would return to the contest in 2016 and represent Romania, and indeed the song, “Paradisio” is being prepped for your listening pleasure. Eagle-eye fans may have already heard a snippet of the song Mihai gave “A capella” during an interview. He has nearly returned twice in the past after placing fourth in 2006 with the perennial Eurovision hit, “Tornero.”
Mihai has said he’s been waiting for the right song to return to Eurovision and achieve his dream of winning the competition. PARADISIO is said to make full use of his expansive vocal range, and will give the seasoned performer a dramatic element that we have come to love from Mihai.
With two new songs out in 2016, it’s surely a great year for Mihai fans! And with hope it will be a great year for Mihai himself. While he has a song and certainly the interest, the only part of the equation that isn’t clear is whether Romania, which has had a long-standing tradition of using a national final to choose their representative, would elect to internally select the singer of if he’ll be the veteran battling his way to the top ala fellow returning Eurovision star Donny Montell in the Lithuanian National Selection. Mihai has had talks with the national broadcaster, but at this point, we all must wait to see if Mihai can do the great feat of bringing Eurovision to Romania for the first time ever! Bucharest 2017!
And with further thought, will 2016 be the year of the returning Eurovision stars, replacing the year of the WARRIORs and duets?
