Tommy Cash, Estonia’s bold and provocative artist, will represent Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 after winning the country’s national selection, Eesti Laul 2025. Triumphing over 15 other entries, Tommy claimed victory in the final round where the audience held 100% of the voting power.
His song, “Espresso Macchiato,” has become one of the most talked-about entries of the season, generating both excitement and controversy across Europe.
Tommy follows 5MIINUST x Puuluup, who represented Estonia in Eurovision 2024. However, his participation hasn’t been without controversy, with Italy’s consumer association Codacons filing a complaint with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) over the song’s portrayal of Italian stereotypes.
Meet Tommy Cash
Born Tomas Tammemets on November 18, 1991, in Tallinn, Estonia, Tommy Cash is internationally known for his experimental, avant-garde music and provocative visual style. Fusing rap, trap, electronic, and pop, his lyrics explore pop culture, society, and technology with daring irreverence.
Tommy’s music journey started in the early 2010s through SoundCloud, gaining attention in the underground music scene. His breakthrough came in 2014 with his debut album “Euroz Dollaz Yeniz.” But it was “Winaloto” (2016) that catapulted him to viral fame, blending raw aesthetics and genre-bending sound. The track won “Best Music Video” at the Eesti Muusikaauhinnad.
With his third album “Mone¥,” Tommy refined his sound, diving deeper into hip-hop and trap while making his music more accessible. Featuring collaborations like Lil Yachty, the album expanded his international audience.
In 2018, Tommy launched a satirical clothing line blending Western and Eastern influences, followed by the release of his second album “¥€$,” praised by outlets like Clash and Paper.

In 2023, Tommy stirred controversy with “Untz Untz,” a music video so explicit it only streams uncensored on PornHub(garnering over 5 million views) while a censored version has over 1.6 million views on YouTube.
About “Espresso Macchiato” – Estonia’s Eurovision 2025 Song
“Espresso Macchiato” was written by Tommy Cash and Finnish producer Johannes Naukkarinen, who also produced the track. The song boldly blends electroswing, pop, and trap, weaving lyrics in both Estonian and Italian.
While fans celebrated Tommy’s selection, the song sparked controversy over its playful use of Italian cultural stereotypes. References to “smoking addiction,” “lemons,” “spaghetti,” “private jets,” and “sweating like a mafioso” fueled debate, with critics calling the Italian lyrics “imperfect” and unauthentic.
Despite backlash, Tommy defended the track, explaining it as a satirical, absurdist tribute to cultural diversity. In a recent interview, he clarified that any offense was unintended, emphasizing the song’s playful, ironic tone.
On stage, Tommy pairs the song with a fun, irreverent choreography, performing alongside five dancers in a spectacle that’s already captured the imagination of Estonian fans—and is sure to be one of the most talked-about acts in Basel this May.

Estonia at Eurovision: A Brief History
Estonia debuted at Eurovision 1994 after failing to qualify in 1993’s Kvalifikacija Za Millstreet. Since then, Estonia has competed 31 times, reaching the grand final 19 times.
The country’s golden era came between 1996 and 2002, consistently ranking in the Top 10 and making history by winning Eurovision 2001 with “Everybody” by Tanel Padar, Dave Benton & 2XL, marking the first ex-Soviet victory.
However, from 2004 to 2008, Estonia failed to qualify for the final. In 2009, Urban Symphony’s “Rändajad” ended the drought, finishing 6th. Since launching Eesti Laul in 2009, Estonia has achieved five more Top 10 finishes, including Elina Nechayeva’s “La Forza” (2018) and Alika’s “Bridges” (2023).
In Eurovision 2024, Estonia’s 5MIINUST x Puuluup placed 20th in the final with 37 points.
