This year marked a major shift in the way the Czech Republic chose its Eurovision entry. For the past six editions, the country used the ESCZ national final to select its act. However, for Eurovision 2025, Česká Televize decided to cancel ESCZ and opted for an internal selection instead.
The broadcaster opened a call for entries without explicitly mentioning ESCZ, signaling a change in approach to focus resources on other aspects such as staging and promotion.
In the end, they selected Adonxs, one of the most prominent figures in the Czech music scene. His entry, “Kiss Kiss Goodbye”, was initially introduced in an acoustic version during the Maltese national selection. Now, the full studio version has been released ahead of Eurovision.
Who is Adonxs?
Born in 1995 as Adam Pavlovčin, Adonxs started his musical journey in 2015 when he formed the band PACE with his classmate Adrián Čermák, now a film score composer. The band enjoyed its peak in 2018, performing at numerous festivals and venues across London.
Following the pandemic, Adonxs returned to his homeland and pursued a solo career. In 2021, he auditioned for SuperStar (the Czech-Slovak version of American Idol) and, despite initial doubts about talent shows, went on to win the competition. This victory marked him as the first openly queer winner in the show’s history, which he described as a significant milestone for Czech-Slovak society.
After his win, Adonxs signed with Warner Music to launch his solo career under his unique stage name, inspired by the Greek mythological figure Adonis, symbolizing beauty, desire, and gender ambiguity.
His music blends modern pop with electronic elements, influenced by artists like Sufjan Stevens, Dua Lipa, and Florence + The Machine. His discography includes hits such as “Moving On,” “Game,” “Cold Summer,” and “No Common Measure,” often tackling themes of queerness, body dysmorphia, and kink.

“I’m very happy: it’s always been my dream to participate in Eurovision. At the same time, I feel a great responsibility to represent my country, which has a very successful recent history.”

Czech Republic’s journey at the Eurovision Song Contest
The Czech Republic debuted at Eurovision in 2007, later than many of its Central European neighbors like Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia. Their debut entry, “Malá Dáma” by Kabát, finished last in Helsinki.
It wasn’t until 2016 that Czechia qualified for its first Grand Final with “I Stand” by Gabriela Gunčíková, placing 25th. Their best result came in 2018 when Mikolas Josef finished 6th with “Lie To Me” in Lisbon, earning 281 points.
Recent years have seen mixed results:
- In 2022, We Are Domi qualified for the final with “Lights Off”, finishing 22nd despite being fan favorites.
- In 2024, Aiko narrowly missed the final with “Pedestal”, placing 11th in the semi-final, just five points behind Norway.
