The ESCplus team has talked to Thea Devy, participant of Beovizija 2020, the Serbian pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, with the song “Sudnji dan” to know a little more about her candidacy and the experience that she is currently living. You can read the full interview below.
How do you feel about your participation in Beovizijos 2020?
The way I feel is best described with one word: blessed. I truly am thankful to have been given this opportunity. I’m really excited about everything that’s coming up and especially that ‘Sudnji Dan’ (Judgement Day) gets a chance to be heard.
Can you tell us about the message of your song? Does it talk about any experience of your own life?
The message of the song is very important to my team and I. It’s a powerful and strong song with a currently relevant topic that concerns and affects every human being on the planet. It is a song of warning.
How did you decide to submit a song to represent Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020?
Initially, the idea didn’t come from me. After we found out that we weren’t selected to represent Austria, my producer and my team suggested to try out for the Beovizija. I soon realized what a wonderful idea that was. I would not only get to compete to represent my home country, but Judgement Day would also get a second chance. It was like fate. The application deadline got pushed back to December, which was exactly the time we needed to translate and record the song, creating ‘Sudnji Dan’ and get everything ready for send-off. Our song arrived on the last day of the registration period. I may not be superstitious, but I truly believe that we have made the right decision and that everything was supposed to work put the way it did.
Have you heard other songs of Beovizija 2020? What do you think about them?
Not yet, I don’t think they’re even out yet. What I did do was look up a couple of the other competitors. All of them are incredibly talented! It is an honour to be in the competition with them and I can’t wait to get to know and share a stage with them.
Can you tell us about your music and your musical references?
I’ve always, always been singing. I was lucky to grow up with my parents introducing me to all kinds of bands and musicians. In my early teenage years, I’ve been in a couple of musicals and I also played the Saxophone in my high school Jazz Orchestra. 2017 was the year I started doing music professionally. That’s when I started writing songs, discovering a new thing that has grown into a passion that makes me really happy, as well as gaining my first experiences in a music studio. That’s also when I realized that my dreams have the possibility to one day become my reality. All I want to do is to continue to create music that makes me happy and to share it with the world. I’m really excited to see what the future will bring.
