Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2020 Latvia

Shantí (Supernova 2020): “We would like to keep this song open for interpretation through the listener’s own experience”.

The ESCplus team has talked to the two members of Shantí. The duo participates in Supernova 2020, the Latvian pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, with the song “Voices in my mind”. You can read the full interview below to learn a little more about their candidacy and the experience they are currently living.

How do you feel about your participation in Supernova 2020?

We are happy that our song was chosen and we feel that this is an exciting challenge and at the same time an opportunity to showcase our music to a wider audience.

Can you tell us about the message of your song? Does it talk about any experience of your own life?

We would like to keep this song open for interpretation through the listener’s own experience. By and large, the song talks about the inner fight with oneself for staying true to oneself and sorting out what is good and what should be left behind as they go through life in which one must recognize the right people and ideas to stick to.

How will the staging be at Supernova 2020? Can you reveal anything?

For now it is a secret for everyone.

How did you decide to submit a song to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020?

The idea for this song was born already a couple of years ago, and we just didn’t complete it. We guess that we held it incomplete until there was the right time. So when we heard about the due date of application for Supernova approaching then we knew that this would be the right time.

If you finally win Supernova 2020, are you going to promote your song in the official pre-parties that take place in different European countries before Eurovision?

If we win Supernova we would surely consider it, based on the needs and our possibilities to travel.

Have you heard the rest of the songs of Supernova 2020? What do you think about them?

Yes, we have heard all of them. Each song is so different that it is difficult to predict which one will win, but they have their unique traits and style. Some of the songs are very catchy, and even after several days, the melodies are stuck in the mind. It will be really interesting to see how the songs will be performed in the live show.
