The ESCplus team has talked to Seleste, participant of Supernova 2020, the Latvian pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, with the song “Like me” to know a little more about her candidacy and the experience that she is currently living. You can read the full interview below.
How do you feel about your participation in Supernova 2020?
I think it is great, because it is a new experience for me and this can give me a lot to become a better singer and the opportunity to hear other opinions about my music and listen to them.
Can you tell us about the message of your song? Does it talk about any experience of your own life?
This song is about people who waste their time having stupid crushes who don’t even matter that much and about not being like everybody else, because we need to be ourselves. What everybody else says about us doesn’t matter, because life is short and you need to live it for yourself, not for the others.
How will the staging be at Supernova 2020? Can you reveal us anything?
I don’t really know anything, but I guess judges will choose eight best songs based on the opinion of the people and on their own. And then, eight musicians will perform on the live show and people will vote for the best one to win.
How did you decide to submit a song to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020?
My sister’s husband is a producer and he knew that I sing. One day we decided why don’t we make a song, and we did it. The song was ready for a long time and we decided why don’t we submit it for Supernova, because it would be a great experience for me and maybe people would enjoy it.
If you finally win Supernova 2020, are you going to promote your song in the official pre-parties that take place in different European countries before Eurovision?
I don’t really know anything about these pre-parties, but if I win, why not, will see.
Have you heard the rest of the songs of Supernova 2020? What do you think about them?
I’ve heard a little about each song and I have some favorites like Katrīna Dimanta and Bad Habbits. And I think it’s great that you also see new faces in this program.
