The ESCplus team has talked to Katrīna Dimanta, participant of Supernova 2020, the Latvian pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, with the song “Heart beats” to know a little more about her candidacy and the experience that she is currently living. You can read the full interview below.
How do you feel about your participation in Supernova 2020?
I am very happy with this opportunity and we are working very hard to go back and show everyone that Latvia can. For me to perform as a solo artist is a real pleasure. I have a great team. I was in Eurovision 2014 being part of Aarzemnieki and representing my country.
Can you tell us about the message of your song? Does it talk about any experience of your own life?
The song is about love, of course, as for all of us it’s important. It’s about a girl who wakes up one morning and has planned everything, but then on her way she meets her old friend, whom they have had something common in the past. They meet and hearts go wild “bum, bum”, now is the time, destiny has got them back together and they live happily ever after! I like it, I love it… sometimes I am a bit annoyed that it sticks in my mind on repeat, but still I like it a lot and I love performing it. There might be hidden some personal experience…
How will the staging be at Supernova 2020? Can you reveal anything?
We are working on this. We have discussed and we’re trying to prepare a really nice show. I think that there will be two male dancers.
How did you decide to submit a song to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020?
I think that this song is catchy and fun, it has a nice story that we all can relate to. I love performing “Heart beats”. This song has a version in Latvian called “Pipars” and we thought that we want to show it to more people but to do so, it had to be performed in English. Also, I love Eurovision and would be honored to go and represent Latvia this year in Rotterdam. I am finally ready to go back to this stage.
If you finally win Supernova 2020, are you going to promote your song in the official pre-parties that take place in different European countries before Eurovision?
Yes, I have already been thinking about this. It’s important to meet people and to promote the song. I am very open for this and we are ready to do everything to help Heart beats in Europe.
Have you heard the rest of the songs of Supernova 2020? What do you think about them?
I have listened to other songs, I’m interested to see what I may be against to, if I get to the final. I have few favorites- Bad Habits and Miks Dukurs. I wish everyone luck and for Latvia to choose the best song with a professional artist performing it.
