Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2020 Latvia

Elizabete Gaile (Supernova 2020): “All the countries want to win, however in the end, it’s about unity and diversity that bring us all together”.

The ESCplus team has talked to Elizabete Gaile, participant of Supernova 2020, the Latvian pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, with the song “For you” to know a little more about her candidacy and the experience that she is currently living. You can read the full interview below.

How do you feel about your participation in Supernova 2020?

I am very excited and honoured to be part of the Supernova 2020. I have to say that I was surprised and at the same time quite proud as well that my song ‘’For You’’ got into TOP 28. So far, this has been such a great experience because for me as a young artist, it’s very important to gain new stage experience and exposure to a wider public, and this is definitely one of the best ways how to do it! I have to admit that this has also been a bit stressful period while we are following the selection process as only 8 contestants will get into the finals.

Can you tell us about the message of your song? Does it talk about any experience of your own life?

The main message of the song is about patience and emotional strength that is necessary when we are ‘’waiting’’ for this one special person. After a disappointing love story, we feel that it’s getting harder and harder to let someone in, however, when love is approaching again, we feel that our hearts are beating faster but this time we want to take it slow as we are afraid of broken heart again. Yes, I do I write songs about my own experience and emotions, however, I am sure that I’m not the only one who can relate to these feelings and situations.

How will the staging be at Supernova 2020? Can you reveal anything?

I can reveal that if I’ll get into the finals, I definitely won’t be alone on the stage but that is all for now. Surprises are great, right?

How did you decide to submit a song to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020?

I decided to apply for Supernova 2020 because I wanted to gain new stage experience and let people know more about who I am as an artist. This is an amazing platform to gain new fans as well. As I’ve already released my debut EP, I found that this will a great chance to let people know more about my music and make my voice heard. Anyhow, I am very happy about the reactions and the feedback I’ve been receiving on my song so far!

If you finally win Supernova 2020, are you going to promote your song in the official pre-parties that take place in different European countries before Eurovision?

If I win the Supernova 2020, I’ll definitely take part in the official pre-parties and other Eurovision events. That’s an amazing opportunity not only get to know other participants from other countries but also to feel more united with other cultures as we all are in this competition together. Of course, all the countries are thinking about winning, however, in the end, it’s about unity and diversity that bring us all together.

Have you heard the rest of the songs of Supernova 2020? What do you think about them?

Yes, I’ve heard all of the Supernova 2020 songs and I think that there are a lot of good and competing ones that can get into the finals and win as well. The songs are different in many ways – it’s great that we have diversity in genres, performers, etc, however, compared to previous years, I don’t see one exact leader. The finals definitely will be interesting to watch!
