Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2014 Moldova

Cristina: “You will definitely see a new show and dress in May!” (Interview – Eurovision 2014 Moldova)

Hello Cristina! First of all, congratulations on winning the Moldovan selection for Eurovision!

ESC+Plus: How did you feel when you were finally announced as the winner of O Melodie Pentru Europa? What does representing Moldova mean for you?

Cristina: First of all, thank you very much for the congratulations!

Honestly, winning the national selection put me in a state of shock, journalists started roaming around me, the entire atmosphere was full of emotions, some people were happy, some were unhappy, TV producers were hurrying me to go on stage and sing the winning song, my team was hugging me, it was crazy! Now, when I look back at it, it’s like a slow-motion film full of emotions, excitement, happiness and the sudden consciousness of the fact that I have a big responsibility now: to represent Moldova in front of all Europe.

E+: How did you decide entering the Moldovan selection? What impelled you to take part?Cristina: This is not the first time I am taking part in the Moldovan selection, I’ve tried twice before. I must say that Eurovision became a big goal for my career as an artist. Somewhere deep inside, I am also grateful that the first two times I didn’t win, because that strengthened my will and my decision that I am ready for the Eurovision. Moldova’s local stages are small, the music industry is almost inexistent and it is a big challenge for a Moldovan artist to perform on such a big stage as Eurovision. This requires a lot of inner power and a very wild soul 🙂

E+: How do you feel every time you sing live on stage in front of a big public? Have you ever imagined yourself performing in front of 170 million of people (Eurovision)?

Cristina: 170 million people sound like fantasy to me. Beautiful fantasy, I must say. Ask me this question again once I have already performed there. It’s going to be unforgettable!

E+: Can you tell us what’s your song is about? What’s the story behind the lyrics?

Cristina: Wild Soul goes deep into existential questions about human being: “What am I? Am I human? What am I? An emotion?” The song is about our perception of time, space, feelings and the pride we have for simply being alive. It is also a motivational song. It’s ultimate meaning is that no matter how empty we feel, there’s one magical power we all have: our own wild souls.

E+: Will you sing the song in English or Romanian?

Cristina: Because the lyrics are so complex, I will most probably sing the song in English, to make sure people understand what my feelings on stage.

E+: A lot of people have been talking about the dress you wore at Moldovan selection but who is the designer? Does it have any relation with the song’s meaning?

Cristina: You will definitely see a new show and dress in May!  However, the dress, designed by the amazing Janna Berezovskaia, received a lot of positive feedback, so we will not change the idea of the dress: that every woman has the power to be delicate and invincible at the same time! My team and I are working long days and nights to come up with something great for our Eurovision audience.

E+: How was the shooting of the official “Wild Soul” video? Any funny anecdote?

Cristina: People who know me know that I love laughing and I love being surrounded by people who make me laugh. There were a lot of funny moments, especially when everyone was trying on the long wig of the main dancer.  By the way, the dancer is also the choreographer of the show I am preparing for Copenhagen!

E+: What can you contribute to the Eurovision Song Contest? And what can the contest contribute to you?

Cristina: I saw a comment on YouTube one of these days, which sounded something like: “finally a song that’s not about love and peace”. I found it both funny and very true; my song goes a bit deeper than usually. Find the lyrics here.

E+: Have you listened to the other Eurovisión 2014 entries? What are your favourite songs?Cristina: I have listened to bits and pieces. I like Conchita’s song; I think it will be a touching performance. I also like Romania’s beautiful duet Paula & Ovi, they always bring a very positive vibe. Norway’s song, on the other side, makes me sit down and listen to it and enjoy the beautiful melody. But these are only first impressions. We’ll see how it goes!

E+: Do you have any favourite Eurovision winner?

Cristina:I really enjoyed Ruslana’s performance; it seemed so different than everything we’ve seen before! If we dig deeper into Eurovision, ABBA and Celine Dion, of course! I am also so excited to meet Emmelie de Forest, she’s a beautiful artist with a beautiful catchy song!

E+: Tell us the most important achievements you have reached until the date.

Cristina: No secret here, my greatest achievement is to mix family with my music career, honestly! If you’re a passionate mother like me, you know what I mean! If we speak about my music career achievements, I passed through many festivals and music contests, each time going home with a prize. So far, the most prestigious award was that from Slavianskii Bazaar Festival. All achievements open doors for new achievements, so here I am now, in front of Eurovision.

E+: What do you do in your free time? Do you have any favourite hobby?

Cristina: In my free time, I am usually driving my old Mercedes. Not for fun, but because I have to go somewhere else. My friends make fun of me, they say I look very hardcore in the old rusty-looking Mercedes, but I love my car as long as it has wheels and can deliver me to the destinations I pass through everyday 🙂

E+: If you could be invisible for a day, what would you do?

Cristina: It’d feel lonely if I was invisible, have you tried imagining being invisible? I enjoy interacting with and being invisible would make me miss my friends and family, so…I am happy without the privilege of being “invisible”.

E+: Can you send a message for our readers and fans of the competition?

Cristina: Find the video message attached! This is my team and I; our wild souls are ready to come to Copenhagen!:
