Today the Norwegian national broadcaster, NRK, has revealed its 21 participants of Melodi Grand Prix 2023, the Norwegian national final.

The Norwegian national broadcaster, NRK, has revealed its 21 competing acts of Melodi Grand Prix 2023 today. During this national final the 2023 Norwegian representative of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will be chosen. This national final will consist of 3 Semi-finals and 1 Grand Final.
The grand reveal
Today a grand reveal was done during a live show on NRK, the Norwegian public broadcaster. The acts were revealed, but not the songs in full; unlike other years that Melodi Grand Prix was held, the songs will be revealed just a couple of days before the first Semi-final. Yet the name of the songs and a snippet of each and every one of them was played during the reveal.

Familiar MGP names
On the list of competing acts there were a couple of familiar MGP names.
- Ulrikke who was bound to wave the Norwegian flag in the song contest of 2020, but since this edition got cancelled because of the global COVID-19 pandemic was never able to let the world hear her song “Attention”, she will have another try this year.
- Jowst is also back. He competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv (Ukraine), together with Aleksander Walmann, but this time around Jowst will be joined by Byron Williams.
- Kate Gulbrandsen will also participate in this year’s Melodi Grand Prix, but she has also represented Norway before in the contest of 1987 in Brussels (Belgium).
- Stig van Eijk won MGP in 1999 and represented Norway that same year in the contest in Jerusalem (Israel) with the song “Living My Life Without You“.
Changes in the MGP format
This year the MGP format has put some changes in place, these changes are:
- There are no pre-qualified entrants. So all acts have to go through a Semi-final round.
- Now there are 3 Semi-finals, instead of 5 as in the years before.
- There is no duels format anymore.
- In the Grand Final there will be an international jury again.
- Public voting in the Semi-finals is reduced to voting for one artist only.

Eurovision 2022
In the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 Norway was represented by two yellow foxes from outter space, called “Subwoolfer”, with the song “Give That Wolf a Banana”; they finished 6th in Semi-final 1, and eventually reached 10th place (of 25) in the Grand Final.
