San Marino: Giovanni Montalbano gets awarded 1 in 360’s second wildcard

The second act, which has just been announced, will join Emma from Finland at 1 in 360, San Marino’s upcoming brand new national selection system for Eurovision 2018

Two official wildcards have already been selected to compete at the Sanmarinese national final which will kick off next month. Today’s winner is the Italian singer Giovanni Montalbano which gained most of the votes from the online users who cast their say on the voting platform.

Montalbano received 388,633 votes in total since voting opened on the 1 December, with fellow Italian artist Gloria Zaccaria being the runner-up, as she came very close second with 382,237 votes.

According to this outcome, the singer will join Finnish singer Emma Sandström who was proclaimed as the winner of the first wildcard awarded by a few of the OGAE clubs across Europe. Emma was a hot fan favourite early 2017 when she managed to try and get the chance to represent Finland in Kiev with her track Circle Of Light.

One more gap is now waiting to be filled within the upcoming days, when the organization will announce a singer who comes from the Republic of San Marino or has a Sanmarinese descent, among all the applications collected. They actually have a few of them to choose from, such as San Marino’s very own Anita Simoncini who went on to represent the country as part of the group The Peppermints at the Junior Eurovision 2014 in Malta and together with Michele Perniola at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna.

Seven more artists will eventually get picked to enter the national final after being evaluated by an specialized committee that will give the chance to join the three previous wildcards in competition and being eligible to get the ticket to Europe’s favourite TV show.

The winner of 1 in 360 project will be known in February and thus will represent San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, set to be held at the Altice Arena in May.
