Beppe Caruana will represent Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with the song “Blue Bird”, which translates as “Blue Bird”.
Broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services Limited (PBS) officially presented its entry this Friday, September 25, for the 24th edition of the European competition. With it, he will defend the island nation’s colors at the major children’s event, which will take place on Saturday, October 24, at the Malta Fairs & Conventions Centre (MFCC) in Ta’ Qali.
The song was first made available to listen to on digital platforms from midnight, while the official music video accompanying the launch of the Maltese entry will premiere on the official Junior Eurovision Song Contest YouTube channel. As a new feature compared to other countries, its release is accompanied by its instrumental version.
With this release, Malta reveals all the details of the song with which Beppe Caruana will seek to win over the European public at the next edition of the contest.
Following his selection on ‘The Voice Kids Malta’ by a professional jury a few days ago, Maltese broadcaster PBS opted to internally select the song. We will be able to enjoy it live on the stage of the Malta Fairs & Conventions Centre (MFCC) in Ta’ Qali (Malta) on Saturday, October 24, from 21:00 CEST. The 2026 Maltese entry will mark the country’s 22nd participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
This is “Blue Bird”, Malta’s entry for Junior Eurovision 2026
“Blue Bird”, the song with which Beppe Caruana will attempt to secure the third Crystal Microphone for Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, was written by Matthew “Muxu” Mercieca, Matthew James Borg and MATT BLXCK, with the participation of the artist himself. It is a team of highly renowned professionals with extensive Eurovision experience.
Matthew Mercieca, known professionally as “Muxu”, is a Maltese singer and songwriter born in 1990. He began his music career in 2008 with “Beat My Drum”, which reached number one in Malta. He has written songs for numerous artists. His work on several entries for the Eurovision Song Contest and Junior Eurovision Song Contest is particularly noteworthy, including the Mediterranean island’s two victories, in 2013 with “The Start” by Gaia Cauchi, and in 2015 with “Not My Soul” by Destiny Chukunyere.
Matthew James Borg is a Maltese musician, songwriter and producer. He was the lead vocalist of the band Red Electrick before embarking on his career as a solo artist. He has also worked in music production and songwriting for other artists. Among his compositions is “Dance (Our Own Party)”, the song performed by The Busker at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
Matthew Caruana, known by his stage name MATT BLXCK, is a Maltese singer and producer. His stage name originated during his participation in ‘X Factor Malta’. Influenced by artists such as Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat, Jason Derulo and Little Mix, he combines pop with other styles. In 2023, he took part in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with “Up”, achieving 3rd place.

Who is Beppe Caruana? Meet Malta’s representative at Junior Eurovision 2026
Beppe Caruana is an 11-year-old Maltese artist who, despite his young age, already has an impressive career in the world of music and the performing arts. A singer and actor, he has shown a strong interest in and talent for the stage from a very young age, combining his musical performances with participation in different theatrical and audiovisual productions. In addition to singing and acting, Beppe Caruana has said in various interviews that he particularly enjoys reading.
His artistic career began before his participation in talent shows. In 2022, he was part of the La Voix Studios choir on the television programme ‘Malta’s Got Talent’, where the group received the Golden Buzzer, a distinction that represented one of his first major recognitions on stage.
His career as an actor also holds an important place in his journey. In 2024, he joined one of the productions by Masquerade Malta, a theatre company with which he played JoJo, one of the main characters in the musical ‘Seussical Jr.’. The show, aimed especially at a family audience, combines a story centred on values such as friendship and kindness with a wide variety of musical styles, including pop, Latin rhythms, swing, gospel, rhythm and blues and funk. His participation in this production allowed Beppe Caruana to continue developing his acting skills and expand his experience on stage.
His career as a singer continued to grow in 2025, when, after successfully passing the three audition stages, he was selected as a finalist in the prestigious Italian festival Zecchino d’Oro. In this renowned children’s competition, he performed the song “Toc Toc” alongside Sofia Bianco, thus adding significant international experience to his career.
In 2026, Beppe Caruana once again demonstrated his artistic versatility by taking part as an actor in the music video for “Show Me How to Love You”, a song by Maltese singer Iván Grech. That same year brought one of the most important moments of his career up to that point: his participation in ‘The Voice Kids Malta’.
During the blind auditions of the children’s talent show, Beppe Caruana performed “Space Man”, the song with which British singer Sam Ryder achieved 2nd place at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. His performance impressed Gaia Cauchi, and he joined her team. Beppe Caruana’s journey on the programme continued successfully. After making it through the different stages of the competition, he won his battle and secured a place in the final alongside his teammate, Nina Grima. In the grand final, he advanced to the superfinal alongside Zeah Aquilina and Maya Galea, representatives of the other two teams.
Finally, the jury proclaimed him the winner of the third edition of ‘The Voice Kids Malta’. This victory represents a new step in Beppe Caruana’s young career, as he becomes the representative of Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2026.
