The RAI, Italy’s public broadcaster, has once again opted to use the talent show ‘The Voice Kids Italy’ to select its representative. This year, the lucky one is Matteo Trullu, the winner of the fourth edition. It is the fourth consecutive year that RAI has turned to the talent show to select its representatives: Melissa Agliottone and Ranya Moufidi (2023), Simone Grande (2024) and Leonardo Giovannangeli (2025).
Matteo Trullu will travel to Malta to compete as representative of Italy at Junior Eurovision 2026, with “Che cos’è l’amore?”, a song that will be released soon. On Saturday, October 24, we will be able to enjoy his performance on the stage of the Malta Fairs & Conventions Centre (MFCC) in the city of Ta’ Qali.
Who is Matteo Trullu? Meet Italy’s representative at Junior Eurovision 2026
Matteo Trullu was born in Cagliari, although he is from Decimomannu, in the province of Cagliari, Sardinia. A singer and multi-instrumentalist, he has become one of the major revelations in Italian children’s music after winning the fourth edition of ‘The Voice Kids Italia’ in February 2026, as part of Nek’s team.
His relationship with music began when he was very young. At just four years old, he became a finalist in the regional auditions for ‘Zecchino d’Oro’, and shortly afterwards he began singing in the Piccolo Coro di San Sperate, a children’s ensemble from his local area. However, his true passion has always been rock, especially music from the 1970s and 1980s. Among his favorite bands are Europe and Twisted Sister, and at the age of six, he asked for his first electric guitar as a gift. A year later, he began to study singing and subsequently added piano and drums to his training, becoming a true multi-instrumentalist.
His big break came with ‘The Voice Kids Italia’. In the blind auditions, he amazed everyone with “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, performed while playing the electric guitar, and throughout the competition he once again demonstrated his affinity for rock with “Somebody to Love”, also by Queen. In the grand final, he went for “Maniac” by Michael Sembello, a song from the soundtrack of Flashdance, once again combining vocals and guitar. The performance ultimately earned him the victory over the public and the jury.
Following his television triumph, Matteo Trullu has taken part in different music programs and events and has shared the stage with Italian artists such as Silvia Mezzanotte, Omar Pedrini, Rocco Hunt, and Samurai Jay. His success was also officially celebrated in Decimomannu: in April 2026, the Town Council granted him a recognition and financial assistance intended to support his artistic training.
