Reni Tolvai: “Fire has a sexy beat and it makes you feel stronger and ambitious” (Hungarian candidate – Exclusive Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Reni Tolvai, candidate of this year’s Hungarian national selection for Eurovision, “A Dal 2016”. The singer will perform “Fire” in the first heat set on January 23.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Hungarian national selection for Eurovision 2016!

E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

Hello! Thank you for making this interview with me. I guess I was 2 when I fell in love with Freddie Mercury and Tina Turner’ s music as my parents listened to it. From that point my mom and dad knew that I would be a singer and a musician. The most important achievement is definitely when I won the Hungarian Idol (Megasztar) singing contest. Since then, I started to build up my career, I own 2 albums, 15 music videos, a lot of concerts, nominations and trophies.

E+: What impelled you to take part in “A Dal 2016”?

It’s funny but my manager and my label sent my song to “A Dal ” and I didn’t expect that it would enter the contest,  but I was amazed and extremely happy when they told me I was in!

E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the heats? Did you expect it?

As I wrote before, I was shocked cause I didn’t expect to be selected, but I can’t wait for the show and we are so excited!!!!

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Hungary? Can you tell us about your song?

I would be extremely honoured and would do everything I can for my performance to be perfect.

E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

Obviously, my song is not that kind of Eurovision song we are used to, but I think that a lot of people will fall in love with that sound and the lyrics. It’s fresh,it has that sexy beat and it makes you feel stronger and ambitious.

E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

I think that “Fire” has to be selected only if the judges and people love my performance. Music is about people’s choice…if they love my song they will vote for me.

E+: How are you preparing your stage performance for “A Dal 2016”?

We are rehearsing everyday with my background vocalists and dancers!

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favourite songs in the history of the competition?

We watch it every year since I was a lil kid, my fav songs from Eurovision are “Euphoria” by Loreen, “Rise like a Phoenix” Conchita Wurst and “Let me try” by Luminita Anghel & Sistem.

E+: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

New album, new videos, new songs, travelling and a touring!

E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

Yes! Thank you so much for interviewing me and supporting me. I hope that you love my performance, and, for the Eurovision fans, I hope I will see you in Stockholm hahah! Bye bye God bless you!

E+: Thanks for your time and good luck!
