Interview Exclusives Junior Eurovision 2013

Exclusive interview with Rustam Karimov from Azerbaijan (Junior Eurovision 2013)

The little Rustam Karimov from Azerbaijan has been chatting with us just before Junior Eurovision 2013. He is having a lot of fun in Kiev! Check what he has told us:

ESC+Plus: Hello Rustam, first of all thank you so much for giving us this interview as Azerbaijani representative at Junior Eurovision 2013!

E+: How did you feel when you were selected to represent Azerbaijan at Junior Eurovision 2013? What does being the Azerbaijani representative in Kiev mean for you?

Rustam: I got really excited when my mom brought me the news and of course, it is a great honour and responsibility. But to be honest, the first thing I asked my mom after finding out about going to Kiev was – What flight are we taking?

E+: How was the selection procedure? How did you decided to enter the competition?

Rustam: The teacher from my music school knew about the auditions and suggested me to apply for them. There were more than a hundred boys and girls taking part in the selection.

E+: Have you watched Junior Eurovision before? What are your favourite singers in the history of the competition?

Rustam: I like Anastasia who won Junior Eurovision last year. All singers taking part in this year’s contest are my favourites and we have become friends.

E+: Do you usually watch senior Eurovision? What are your favourite Eurovision singers and songs?

Rustam: Oh yes! I am a huge Eurovision fan! I was so happy Baku hosted the contest in 2012, I even took part in some events during the Eurovision week.

My favourite Eurovision songs are Running Scared and Hold Me and my favourite singers are Ell&Nikki and Farid, I am Ell’s friend too!.

E+: Tell us more about yourself, your favourite music style, favourite school subject, hobbies, musical career….

Rustam: I love music, even as a subject at school and I also like mathematics. I attend the music school where I am learning to play drums and piano. I like playing drums and I have just started learning guitar.
My favourite music style is jazz, but sometimes I listen to some classical music written by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and List.

Junior Eurovision is my first singing contest. I already have some stage experience because I have already performed with a symphonic orchestra.

E+: Can you tell us what is your song about? Which is the story behind the lyrics?

Rustam: My song is called Me and My Guitar. It is about a guy who loves music and playing guitar, but he does not like school that much. He would rather go out play with friends or practice guitar so, it is definitely a song about me. The lyrics are written by the Azerbaijani songwriter Murad Arif.

E+: How was the shooting of the preview video? Any funny anecdote?

Rustam: It was awesome in spite of the rain. It hardly ever rains it Baku, but somehow had to happen when we were shooting the preview video. It was still fun because I did the things I like: roller skating, singing, dancing, drawing and much more, It is now on-line and everyone can watch it!

E+: What are your impressions after the rehearsals? Do you like the stage design? How do you feel on stage?

Rustam: The stage is so big with big screens behind me. I was surprised and shocked when I first rehearsed and saw the stage. My friends from Kiev are with me on the stage so I am not completely alone!

I was a little bit scared when I went on that stage for the first time but after rehearsing my song for a couple of time, I thought I could fly – it was so amazing!

E+: Have you already met the other participants? What have you been talking about?

Rustam: Yes, I have met other participants. We all stay at the same hotel and we have become friends.

E+: How was the welcome party? Anything you want to share with us?

Rustam: The welcome party was fun. I met the other participants, we performed our songs, and later on we all dance together.

E+: What do you expect from Junior Eurovision 2013?

Rustam: As I have said, this is my first singing competition so the main thing I expect from the contest is the experience.  All participants have had the opportunity to work with professionals from so many countries and yes, I want to sing my song well so you all like it.

E+: Could you send a message for our readers and fans of the competition?

Rustam: Dear esc-plus.com readers! Listen to my song Me and My Guitar, I dedicate it to all of you!

E+: Thanks for the interview and good luck on Saturday!

Rustam: Thank you!
