Eurovision Eurovision 2015 Eurovision 2016 Australia Germany

Germany could host Eurovision 2016 in case of Australian victory!

This year, Australia was invited to join the competition by the EBU and the Austrian broadcaster ORF as a way to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The EBU announced if Australia was the winner, it would not be allowed to host next year’s Eurovision Song Contest since the 2016 edition is set to take place in a European country. Latest rumours pointed at Germany as possible host in case Australia won the competition and this has been now confirmed by Christer Björkman, Swedish head of delegation and member of the Eurovision reference group until 2015.

This revelation has taken place during the broadcasting of the Swedish program “Inför ESC”. During a discussion about the Australian participation, the host Sarah Dawn Finer asked Christer Björkman to clarify the matter of the possible host country in case Australia won the competition. At first, Björkman was reluctant to reveal such an important information but he finally confirmed Germany as the agreed country to host Eurovision 2016.

The last time Germany hosted Eurovision was back in 2011 after the victory of Lena Meyer with the song “Satellite”.
