Cyprus won’t participate at the 59th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, as the CyBC, the Cypriot national broadcaster, has announced.
The reasons arguing this decision have been the lack of budget and the financial crisis affecting the Mediterranean island.
The country has participate at Eurovision 31 times, withdrawing 2 times, 1988 and 2001, and reaching 25 finals.
The best Cypriot result was in 1982, 1997 and 2004, three 5th places. In 2013, Despina Olympiou didn’t get through to the final having 11 points and a 15th place at her semi-final.
If Greece dont sort themselves out, 2014 will be the first time in 39 years with no Greek language singer at Eurovision
