Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2015 Germany

Ann Sophie:”When I won Clubkonzert I was so happy and a little bit in shock” (German finalist – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Ann Sophie, finalist of the German national selection for Eurovision 2015 “Unser Song für Österreich”. Ann will sing “Jump The Gun” and “Black Smoke” in the final to take place tomorrow.

ESC+Plus: Hi Ann! First of all congratulations on having been selected to compete at Unser Song für Österreich 2015.

Thank you.

E+: What did you feel when you were named the winner of Clubkoncert and, consequently, German finalist?

Honestly I was so overwhelmed by what happened, that I did not quite realize it…I was so happy and I think I was a little bit in shock. 🙂

E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical evolution and important achievements?

Of course. I started singing when I was very young. I wanted to become a singer, when Britney Spears first Single came out – and later I wanted to sing like Christina Aguilera. Her album “Stripped” inspired me so much and I literally sang my heart out to that one. I mostly used every chance to be on stage and perform. Later when I moved to New York to attend the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, I began to write my own music and sang in New York Jazz Bars – Etta James and Beyoncé are huge inspirations to me as well. You see it is a mixture of many things. 🙂

E+: Why did you decide to take part in the German selection this year?

I thought it was time for a new step. I felt ready – but honestly I never thought that I would actually be chosen for the Clubconcert.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Germany in Vienna?

I would have no words…I would be so honoured.

E+: Can you tell us about your songs “Jump The Gun” and “Black Smoke” and the story behind their lyrics?

Both songs are about love, dating, what have you. “Jump The Gun” tells the story of not rushing love, staying calm and letting things happen as they come naturally. “Black Smoke” is more about the fact that two people who have been in a relationship do not recognize each other anymore, they cannot say the “three words” – so basically it is a break up song.

E+: Have you started to prepare your stage performances? Can you give us any clue?

Yes I have, but only in my mind. I visualize my performances a lot. I cannot give you any clue, you will have to wait and see. 😉

E+: What are your main strengths so as to get the support needed to reach Eurovision?

My balls..? haha – I cannot tell you what my main strengths are exactly. Sometimes I have moments, where I feel confident and sometimes that confidence fades and I become a child – I have a lot of respect for this contest and all the other artists and I have a lot of respect for the supporters. Maybe it is up to them to tell me what my strengths are. 🙂

E+: What can this competition contribute to your musical career?

A lot. The publicity, the press, working together with all kinds of people – it would definitely make a difference. It already does.

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favourite song in the history of the contest?

It will always be Lena with Satellite! 🙂 She was so cute and cool and that song just sticks in your head.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

I always have a lot of plans to fall back on. But for now I do not want to think of any other plan, just enjoying the moment and this wonderful opportunity.

E+: What is your favourite music style? Do you have any favourite singer?

Beyoncé! I love her so much. I love Hip Hop, R&B, Rap, but I also like electronic music, Rock, Blues, Soul, Pop – I like mostly everything, really depends on the mood and the situation I guess. I am no fan of Heavy Metal and hardcore Techno! 🙂

E+: Finally, would you like to send a message for our readers?

Thank you for having this interview. I hope you will like my performance and the two songs, that they bring you happiness and joy. I am sure everyone is nervous…not just the artists. But we shall all live the moment, right?
