Sweden: SVT reveals stage design for Melodifestivalen

Earlier today SVT posted the first sketches of Melodifestivalen’s stage. This year is all about the lights and depth.

The designer of the stage is Viktor Brattström who also worked on the Eurovision 2016 stage. “The experience we have gained from previous projects is that we want to strengthen the sense of depth and be smart with the placement of the light. We want the light to be integrated into the set design and enhance it. It has led to a more futuristic look.

With all these lights it is easy to associate with Star Wars and hyperspace, but it’s only something that we noticed afterwards. We can use the LED panels in a smarter way now. The parts are smaller and lighter, and the resolution is higher, so it becomes smoother and easier to use.

The scene is as close to a fantastic Eurovision Stage as we can get but in a smaller format. It has depth and integration between lighting and set design. It has versatility, variety and is über-contemporary”, says Melodifestivalen producer Christer Björkman. “It provides endless opportunities for a great show”, he continues.

The audience with tickets at the arena floor will now have the chance to be even closer to the stage. In previous years, the scene had included a separate, circular stage in the middle of the audience. This year the stage will have a long pointed catwalk that extends on the arena floor instead.
