Pietarin: “We are a little bit different from most of the other UMK contenders” (Finnish semifinalists – Exclusive Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Pietarin, semifinalists of this year’s Finnish national selection for Eurovision. Pietarin will perform “Liian kuuma” in the last semi-final of UMK 2016 to take place on February 20.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Finnish national selection for Eurovision 2016!

Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

I’ve been playing music most of my life. It’s been just a hobby, but now I’m trying to make money too. I don’t have any real achievements, just made some records and played gigs.

E+: What impelled you to take part in “UMK 2016”?

I thought we should try to do something to get our music through to bigger audience. At some point I came up with the idea to send a demo to UMK, and Mitja and Tyko said they’re with me on this.

E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the semi-finals? Did you expect it?

I felt good! I thought our song was ok, but I didn’t really know if we would be what they’re looking for,  we being a little bit different from most of the other UMK contenders.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Finland?

It would be nice to represent Finland. Going to Eurovision song contest is really something thats hard to even think about 🙂

E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

Liian Kuuma is just a song about a hot girl, there’s no hidden agenda 🙂

E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

I think our strength is good team spirit!

E+: If you win the contest, you sing in Finnish or in English at Eurovision?

I don’t know.. Maybe Finnish, but english could be possible too. We have to talk about it on the flight to Stockholm 😉

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favorite songs in the history of the competition?

I used to watch them with my family when I was small. The best Eurovision song ever is Riki Sorsas Okei Regei.

E+: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

Easy question! Pertti Kurikka’s Nameday would be my choice.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

We have a record coming out soon, so I think we gone play some gigs. I hope we get to play some festivals too!

E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

Peace and love!

E+: Thanks for your time and good luck!
