ManuElla: “My song is written in pop-country genre and talks about love” (Slovenian Finalist – Exclusive Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to ManuElla (Manuella Brechko), semifinalist of Misija Evrovizija in 2012 and finalist of this year’s Slovenian national selection for Eurovision, “EMA 2016”.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Slovenian national selection for Eurovision 2016!

E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

As far as I remember I have always been a singer! So… as a teenager I participated at a National TV talent show called “Spet doma”. Then, I tried at German “Das Supertalent” and reached among 100 best talents of Germany. In the same year I joined again on National TV show “Misija Evrovizija”, where I became semi-finalist… I participated later also at “Slovenska popevka”, which is the oldest Music festival in Slovenia.

E+: What impelled you to take part in “EMA 2016”?

I always wanted to be the one who takes the responsibility to represent my lovely Country SloveNIA in front of the whole Europe. And I really wish I could…

E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the final? Did you expect it?

When I heard the results I was very happy, somehow fulfilled. No, I didn’t expect it, but I strongly believed in my song and I still do… ☺

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Slovenia? Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

Representing Slovenia would be a great honor, but also a big responsibility as I already mentioned before. Anyway, I am pretty sure I can handle it well.

The song talks about love (what else 🙂 ) and “colours in it”… It is written in pop-country genre and I hope you’ll love it as much as I do!

E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

I think my song has the power to enchant the audience. When I’m on the stage I sink into my own world, that I simply enjoy… I am sure because other people can feel me.

E+: Have you started to prepare your stage performance for “EMA 2016”?

Yes of course, my team is already busy from the moment we were “in the game”. We take our job very seriously.

E+: You took part in Misija Evrovizija 2012, where Eva Boto got the prize. How was this experience for you? What do you think is the best method to choose the Slovenian entry for Eurovision?

Misija Evrovizija gave me a lot of good memories. Nowadays, for sure, it’s easier for me to be more comfortable in front of TV cameras. I think the best way for Slovenia is open concourse and give the chance the best song to win.

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favorites songs of the history of the competition?

Yes of course, I’ve always been a big fan of ESC. When I was a little girl, I used to stand in front of the TV, took some sheets and pretended to be there on stage… (and I still do, ha ha ha).

The songs that I specially remember are Fly On The Wings Of Love – Olsen Brothers (2001 ESC Denmark), Euphoria – Loreen (2012 ESC Sweden), Calm After The Storm – Common Linnets (2014 ESC The Netherlands), Take Me To Your Heaven – Charlotte Nilsson (1999 ESC Sweden), A Million Voices – Polina Gagarina (2015 ESC Russia) and many more.

E+: If you could choose an Eurovision former participant to sing with, who would it be?

It’s a tough question but ANOUK (The Netherlands) came into my mind at first and the second is Željko Joksimović (Serbia).

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

First of all, it is my wish to finish my first Album this year and I hope I also shoot some good videos. And, certainly, to have a lot of good performances…

E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

My dear Eurovision fans! As we have just entered New Year, let we all make this one full of Love and good Music! I also hope that you will love my song for EMA…

E+: Thanks for your time and good luck!

Thank You, I really appreciate Your support!!! 🙂
