Kaceo: “Our song is about the hypersexualization of the music industry and our schizophrenic puritanism” (Swiss finalists – Exclusive Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Kaceo, finalists of this year’s Swiss national selection for Eurovision. The band will perform “Disque D’Or” in the final of “Die Entscheidungsshow 2016” to take place tomorrow.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Swiss national selection for Eurovision 2016!

Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

Despite our natural irony, we like to speak about serious topics. We are coming from different musical styles : ska, balkanic, metal, rock, songwriting, folk. And this mess creates Kaceo on stage. We started gigs in 2013. In 2015 we released two EPs, “Ne pas jeter” in January and “Déchets spéciaux” in September, released two videos “Ar-Men” and “Disque d’or” that you already know.

E+: What impelled you to take part in “Die Entscheidungsshow 2016”?

Drinking on a Sunday evening can have unexpected consequences ! Disque d’or is about the music production and broadcast industry. We found it interesting to inject our song in that circuit, to observe what was going to happen and learn from it. To be perfectly honest, we didn’t think we could even be pre-selected.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Switzerland?

Great honor, and surprised because it would mean that our compatriot fully understand our irony and our message. Serious doesn’t necessarily mean without fun!

E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

It is about the hypersexualization of the music industry and our schizophrenic puritanism between a sanitized speech but yet voyeur shows. As you could have noticed, our original song has a cynical and crude approach. We wanted to describe what everyone sees on TV : we put explicit words on what is usually implicitly shown. As requested by our national television, we prepared another version : we changed an important part of the lyrics to be ESC-compliant to get an almost-irony-free version. And we prepared another video, almost-scenario-free. You can watch that new one here , but we still have the same message.

E+: How are you preparing your stage performance for “Die Entscheidungsshow”?

Lots of fitness, as we are over or under weighted. And we try to find time to practice our choreography but it is difficult as we don’t have the physique anyway to be on a TV show. Between fitness we discuss drinking electrolytic beverage.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

Being happy, enjoying life and compose new songs and record a full length album. And we also look forward to getting plugged back on stage in spring !

E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

Be happy, enjoy life, share good music and listen to our music! If you come in Geneva, let’s have a drink together!

E+: Thanks for your time and good luck!
