FYR Macedonia internally select Jana Burčeska for Eurovision 2017

As if from nowhere, Macedonian broadcaster, MRT, have internally selected Jana Burčeska to send to Eurovision Song Contest in 2017 to be held in Kyiv, Ukraine.

The announcement came earlier today on the broadcaster’s official website, where they add that they will also internally select the song at a later stage, where the song will showcase the culture of Macedonia as well as remaining current for the Eurovision show.

Jana Burčeska rose to fame when she took place in Macedonian Idol in 2011, where she placed 6th in the first, and only, season of the talent show. During the show, Macedonian superstar and former Eurovision star, Kaliopi was a judge on the show.  In 2011, she also took on the role of UNICEF ambassador for campaign “Together for Schools without Violence”.

She has also taken part in several edition of SkopjeFest which is often used for the national selection for Macedonia at Eurovision, in 2012 and 2013 she took part (both years however in which Macedonia chose to internally select their participant instead). In 2013 she took part with fellow Macedonian star, Miki Sekulovsk, with song “Ljubov”.

Macedonia were represented in 2016, by Kaliopi with song “Dona” which sadly failed to qualify from the semi final, despite Kaliopi being such a big Eurostar amongst the fandom. She finished 11th in the semi final with 88 points.

More information will follow soon about the song, and we will keep you updated when we have more information.
