EBU reveals venue and date for Junior Eurovision 2017

EBU has revealed more details about the upcoming edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017. This year’s competition will take place on November 26 in Tbilisi Sports Palace. This has been announced during the first Steering Group meeting which is currently being held in the Georgian capital.

Tbilisi Sports Palace opened its doors on 12 May 1961 having held a wide range of events, from sports tournaments to concerts. The venue has a capacity of approximately 10 000 spectators and it was recently renewed. Apart from the central arena, this complex has several gyms, open and indoor exhibition areas, an office area and the adjacent territory, which upon accomplishment, may be turned into a commercial area.  Tbilisi Sport Palace currently holds exhibitions, concerts, cultural events and shows as its arena may easily turned into an exhibition or a concert hall.

Five countries have clearly confirmed participation at Junior Eurovision 2017 with the Cypriot confirmation still uncertain, as they released a statement before the 2016 competition.

  • Russia
  • Belarus
  • Ireland
  • The Netherlands
  • Georgia
  • (Cyprus)

Georgia will be hosting Junior Eurovision for the first time after having won the contest three times, a record number. Last year, the competition was won by Mariam Mamadashvili with the song Mzeo giving her country the chance to host the event.

So, Junior Eurovision is back to a huge venue, what do you think about this decision?
