ESC+Plus has talked to Baiba, participant of this year’s Lithuanian national selection for Eurovision. Baiba is competing at “Eurovizijos 2016” with the song “Mayday”, which she will perform again at tomorrow’s show.
Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Lithuanian national selection for Eurovision 2016!
E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?
I am together with music from my childhood aged 4. I finished Liepaja Music college as a classical pianist, after that, I studied in Vilnius college performing arts, especially jazz singing. I have won many international competitions as a jazz singer, joined many Tv shows and I was also backing vocal of Sasha Song at Eurovision 2009 in Moscow.
E+: What impelled you to take part in “Eurovizijos 2016”?
It is always a challenge to join it, this is not my first try, I can see that not the last…hopefully, I will have the opportunity to represent Lithuania one day.
E+: How did you feel during your first performance at “Eurovizijos 2016”? Did you expect to get the ticket for the next stage?
Well , you can always be better but, I wanted to get to the next round.
E+: What it would mean for you to represent Lithuania?
It would be an amazing honour, hopefully one day I will feel those emotions!
E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?
For me the song is very positive, very 80s. I hope people will feel that and vote for me. The story is about love, and about that you don’t have to look for love everywhere, because it may be just around the corner, where you don`t expect it 🙂
E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?
I am more than sure that I am not going to win this year, so let`s have this conversation when I will be positive in my success.
E+: Will you change your stage performance for the next stage of “Eurovizijos 2016”?
Yes, I will have a small dance and the story will end up humoristic.
E+: If you win “Eurovizijos 2016”, would you sing in Lithuanian or in English at Eurovision?
OF course in English!
E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favourite songs in the history of the competition?
Yes I watch it. One of my favorite songs is Loreen’s Euphoria. I sometimes sing this song in my concerts in respect for her.
E+: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?
I am not picky, because I think all those artists which are representing their country are worth to sing with. I think I wouldn’t sing with artist who are not from my style, let’s say hard rock would be difficult for me .
E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?
Well, I am working on my music this year. Hopefully I will release a lot of good songs and, of course, I want to film a clip, fingers crossed.
E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?
Vote for the winners.
E+: Thanks for your time and good luck!
