Eurovision Eurovision 2017 Armenia

Armenia chooses for Eurovision today!

Exotic Armenia chooses a representative from two local talents today in the Final of Depi Evratesil. After weeks of guidance from superstar Eurovision-alum mentors, singers Artsvik and Marta will make one final attempt to woo the Armenian public to choose them to make the trip to Kiev, Ukraine.

Depi Evratesil was a new spin for the Armenian Broadcaster’s Eurovision selection. The National Final/Open Talent Show marked the first time in 3 years Armenia had not used an internal selection to choose their Eurovision artist. Previously, other finals had taken place to choose either or both the performer or song. The change saw a marked increase in interest from fans in the Eurovision world.

As previously reported by ESC+Plus, the initial thatch of 80 hopefuls was cut down via a series of shows on Armenian television. Some decisions have caused a furor among fans with a few seeming favorites out during previous rounds. Most recently, Artsvik and Marta were the last two contestants remaining as the Final night loomed large. Artsvik has been lauded for her voice and choosing big ballads such as Polina Gagarina’s “Million Voices” from Eurovision 2015. She has found herself collecting the most points from the International Jury in the last round. Marta, conversely, has struggled vocally at times but brought an edge and cool to her performances of songs like Beyonce’s “Naughty Girl.” Marta seemed to connect to the public better, receiving the higher of the televote scores. Both hopefuls have built a loyal fan base through the weeks leading into today.

Now, it’s up to the viewers and judges to decide who deserves to perform at Eurovision as the winner will be decided by a mix of SMS vote and professional jury made up of musicians from the Armenian diaspora.

The Armenian singer who will represent Cyprus at Eurovision 2017, Hovig, will perform as special guest for Grand Final.

The Final of Depi Evratesil will be broadcast at 19:00 CET on AMPTV 1 and you can watch it on-line here.

Armenia has only missed the final of the Eurovision Song Contest one time, with their highest position being fourth, a position they reached twice, with Sirusho in 2008 and Aram Mp3 in 2014. No matter which girl Armenia chooses, she will have the weight of her country on her shoulders to bring home the ‘W’ to Yerevan for the first time.
